Peppermill Lake - Oxford, WI August 15th

Voyage number two on our kayaking adventure brought us to a small local lake called Peppermill Lake.

(This was before I figured I'd take a lot of photos.  In fact, this was before I was brave enough to bring my phone along in the kayak... figuring I'd fall out before I got my shot lined up.
I'd also like to add that these posts are not added on the day or even the week that H1 and I ventured onto the water. )

Anyhow - a few facts about Peppermill Lake:

53 acre lake at about a maximum of 12 feet deep.  Moderately clear water with largemouth bass, musky, northern pike and panfish.  Public boat landing.

What we discovered:  It's a nice lake.  There is a portage to the side of the launch which empties into a nice little stream called Peppermill Creek.  The creek flows into a smaller lake called McDougall Lake which appears to have no public access.    Since this was roughly our second outing, we didn't go far on Peppermill.  From the boat landing or the view from the road, it looks like a cute little pond.  Later, we looked at the map through the DNR online and discovered we had only puttered around a very tiny area of the lake.  There were acres and acres that we didn't even get to see.  All the more reason to return.   http://dnr.wi.gov/lakes/lakepages/LakeDetail.aspx?wbic=178700&page=map
Some spots were pretty weedy but not annoyingly so.  Overall, it a great lake for puttering around and in a pretty quiet "neighborhood".
