Peppermill Lake - Oxford, WI August 15th

Image
Voyage number two on our kayaking adventure brought us to a small local lake called Peppermill Lake.   (This was before I figured I'd take a lot of photos.  In fact, this was before I was brave enough to bring my phone along in the kayak... figuring I'd fall out before I got my shot lined up. I'd also like to add that these posts are not added on the day or even the week that H1 and I ventured onto the water. )  Anyhow - a few facts about Peppermill Lake: 53 acre lake at about a maximum of 12 feet deep.  Moderately clear water with largemouth bass, musky, northern pike and panfish.  Public boat landing. What we discovered:  It's a nice lake.  There is a portage to the side of the launch which empties into a nice little stream called Peppermill Creek.  The creek flows into a smaller lake called McDougall Lake which appears to have no public access.    Since this was roughly our second outing, we didn't go far on Peppermill.  From the boat landing

Maiden Kayak Voyage

So, it begins. H1 and I talked about trying something new.  We both enjoy water and wanted something that would also offer some sort of exercise while being relaxing.  We tossed around the ideas of a paddle boat, a canoe... kayaks.  We settled on kayaks.  Two blue kayaks.  After diligently (or obsessively) researching, we found a couple of modestly priced boats with high weight capacity.  [ let me interject here.... I am not a featherweight, nor am I fond of drowning or large fish.  Yes, I can swim quite well, as can H1.  However, I do not wish to play in deep water while not knowing what is swimming below me] Anyway, we found a couple of kayaks at a home-improvement store and decided to make the investment.  Decent reviews.  Viper , 10'4" sit-in models with a weight capacity of 275lbs. This is where it all began.  Our maiden voyage took us to a local lake.  I will get into the specifics of this beautiful place in a bit  but we fell in love with kaya
